Steps for Life 5 km Fundraising Walk (Kingston)

If today is an average working day in Canada, three workers won’t come home from their jobs, killed by hazards from heights to equipment to toxic dust. Thousands more will be injured, and all these tragedies cause waves of grief and difficulty for families, friends, co-workers and the wider community.
On May 3 our community will come together to honour those changed lives and prevent future tragedies. Steps for Life-Walking for Families of Workplace Tragedy is an annual event to boost awareness of workplace tragedy and raise funds for Threads of Life, a national charity. Threads of Life provides programs and services for workers and families affected by work-related deaths, serious injuries and occupational disease.
Tracey Csordas is one of those individuals. Tracey’s brother Bryn died as a result of a 30-foot fall through a skylight on the rooftop of a factory where he was working.
“Being the spokesperson for the Kingston Steps for Life Walk allows me to share my story about my brother and honour his life, a life that was cut short due to a workplace fatality,” Tracey says. “My only hope is to help others be safer in the workplace to prevent another tragedy. Steps for Life brings people together who are all interested in a common goal and it is to help raise community awareness of the importance of workplace health and safety and prevent further pain and suffering.”
Steps for Life is a fun 5-km walk that brings together those affected by workplace tragedies and the people and organizations committed to preventing them. Steps for Life-Kingston will take place at Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area on Saturday, May 3, 2025. To register or learn more, visit www.stepsforlife.ca.
