$5 million boost for local food industry

Sustainable CAP supports growth and safety

The Canadian and Ontario governments are investing up to $5 million through the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP) to help small businesses in agriculture and food. This initiative, backed by Hastings – Lennox and Addington MPP Ric Bresee, is designed to enhance food safety systems and spur growth.

Funding will be available for food processors, producers, and service providers to adopt new safety equipment, technologies, and standards. It also covers employee training and supports businesses in meeting market demands while strengthening Ontario’s food chain security.

Bresee expressed enthusiasm for the program, stating, “Our government is committed to supporting local farmers and food producers with essential programs like the Sustainable CAP.”

Applications open on tomorrow, with funding covering up to 50% of costs, capped at $75,000. For more details, visit Ontario’s food safety and growth initiative at: ontario.ca/page/food-safety-and-growth-initiative.
