Belle Park cleanup underway

Kingston prepares for spring restoration

The City of Kingston has started cleanup efforts at Belle Park after a 1.25-hectare area was closed in late September due to health risks from garbage and a rodent infestation.

Work crews began removing debris, adding clean topsoil, and hydroseeding grass to restore the area today (November 6).

Prior to the Sept. 27 closure, residents who were sheltering near the Integrated Care Hub (ICH) collected their belongings with assistance from Addiction & Mental Health Services, Kingston Community Health Centres, City staff, and Kingston Police. Secure off-site storage was offered for additional items.

Perimeter fencing will stay up through spring to allow the grass to take root, and residents are asked to keep clear of the work zone. The City and community partners are also helping connect vulnerable residents to indoor shelter options and daytime services. Belle Park and other municipal parks remain accessible for overnight shelter if needed.
