Building trust: Kingston Councillor calls for focus on police confidence

Could be included in crime prevention campaign

At the most recent Police Services Board meeting, Kingston Councillor and Board Member Jimmy Hassan said he thinks 'confidence in the police' should be a major focus of the city and police force.

He told the board its the number one issue brought to his attention by the citizens he serves.

He says it's all about getting the people of Kingston to trust the Police.

Police Chief Scott Fraser said a new plan has been distributed to officers, but there's more work to be done.

The Chief pointed out that delays in response to calls can happen for many reasons, but acknowledges that the service is working to improve on all fronts of serving the public.

Mayor Bryan Paterson suggested a crime prevention campaign for the city, which prompted the discussion.
