Tens of thousands raised
Crawford Wharf in downtown Kingston was packed as nearly 200 people jumped into the freezing waters of Lake Ontario for this year’s Polar Plunge.
The annual event raised close to $72,000 for Special Olympics Ontario, with more donations expected. According to co-organizers Sgt. Steve Koopman and Det.-Const. Bryan McMillan, participation saw a huge increase from last year.
Crews worked early Sunday morning to cut through eight inches of ice to prepare the plunge site. Spectators cheered as participants braved the cold for a great cause.
Donations are still being accepted through the Polar Plunge website: Polar Plunge Donations. Kingston Police and event organizers thank the community for their support in helping Special Olympics athletes.
