Independent MPP has idea to honour our vets

Special crosswalks would be installed

Ontario's only Independent MPP is hoping her idea, that would help honour veterans all over the province, can cross party lines.

Haldimand-Norfolk's Bobbi Ann Brady tabled a motion in the Ontario Legislature that said the Government of Ontario should direct municipalities to set aside, and secure in perpetuity, a painted crosswalk in remembrance of Canadian military veterans and soldiers, to honour their service and sacrifice and to show deep appreciation for the priceless gift of freedom.

With this motion, Brady is hopeful the province will pick it up and roll with it as it's an idea the goes beyond the label of Conservative, Liberal, NDP, Green, or Independent.

While Brady hopes for that outcome, she is making a plan B.

In the spring, she will present legislation on the issue if need be, taking time to work out all the kinks and craft the perfect wording.

Brady notes, this type of thing is not unheard of.

Across the province, several municipalities have taken it upon themselves to move forward with similar ideas, but she feels this should not be an idea that pop up randomly but instead should be the norm across Ontario.

Brady's Private members bill, if it comes to that, would lay out the framework for this project and how it would be paid for.
