Kingston Interval House reacts to Ottawa Femicide

47 year-old victim, allegedly killed by her partner

Kingston Interval House says Sunday's Femicide in Ottawa is heartbreaking.

A statement on their Facebook page says, "This on the tail end of hearing about two femicides in Etobicoke last week."

The victim has been identified as 47 year-old Jennifer Zabarylo, an Ottawa resident.

Femicide is the killing of women and girls because of their gender. It is often caused by harmful gender stereotypes, discrimination, or unequal power between men and women. One of the jury recommendations at the inquest into ending Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) in Ontario is to recognize the term in the Canadian Criminal Code.

Interval House encourages victims of IPV in our listening area to reach out to them if help is needed.

They have a 24 crisis line at 613-546-1777.
