Kingston marks 16 Days of Activism with Wrapped In Courage flag raising

Campaign to end gender-based violence underway

Kingston Interval House raised the Wrapped In Courage flag at City Hall Monday to mark the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

The campaign highlights the ongoing fight to end gender-based violence and raise awareness. Kingston’s Anti-Violence Coordinating Committee, KFL&A Public Health, and the United Way are leading local efforts.

Gender-based violence is a global issue, with nearly 736 million women worldwide having experienced intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence.

In Canada, an average of 102 women and girls fall victim to gender-related homicide each year.

The flag will fly at City Hall through December 10, symbolizing solidarity with the fight against gender-based violence.
