LCBO to pull all U.S. liquor from shelves

Industry groups are supporting the move

The LCBO is halting all sales of U.S. alcohol in response to new American tariffs on Canadian goods. Starting Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2025, all U.S. liquor will be removed from LCBO stores, online sales, and wholesale distribution to restaurants, bars, and grocers.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford called the tariffs “unjustified” and vowed to fight back. The LCBO sells nearly $1 billion worth of American alcohol annually, affecting over 3,600 products.

Industry groups, including the Ontario Craft Brewers Association, support the move, urging the province to replace U.S. brands with local products.

The trade war escalated after Canada imposed 25% tariffs on $155 billion in American imports. Meanwhile, U.S. liquor industry leaders call Ontario’s ban “counterproductive.”

With British Columbia and Nova Scotia also pulling U.S. liquor, experts warn of growing economic tensions between the two countries.
