Investigation underway as to how it got there

A live grenade was discovered at a waste management facility in Kingston on Saturday, January 11, 2025, prompting an evacuation. 

Employees sorting items in a scrap metal disposal container around 1:00 p.m. noticed what appeared to be a grenade and immediately contacted police.

Authorities confirmed the grenade was live, with its pin still intact. The OPP Explosive Devices Unit responded and safely disposed of the explosive.

No injuries were reported, and the facility resumed operations after the incident.

The circumstances surrounding how the grenade ended up in the container remain unknown. Police are investigating.
