New fully accessible playground coming to Kingston

Shannon Park to host the much-needed play structure

Shannon Park will be the site of Kingston's first fully inclusive and accessible playground.

Council approved $300,000 in funding Tuesday night after a community group dubbed the Inclusive Play Project raised nearly $200,000 from various sources with talks of further support.

IPP member Rachel Doornekamp says existing playgrounds miss the mark.

Doornekamp says their intention is not to make every playground in Kingston fully accessible because it would cost millions of dollars. But there's ways to enhance inclusivity all around.

IPP is looking to raise $1.5 million to reach the park's funding target.
