Planned power outage set for Saturday

Sydenham District to go dark for critical upgrades

Utilities Kingston has announced a planned power outage in the Sydenham District on Saturday, August 24, to carry out essential infrastructure upgrades.

The outage will start at 8:30 a.m. and is expected to last around eight hours, affecting Union Street, Vandalay Crescent, Collingwood Street, and several other nearby areas.

The outage is necessary for the installation of new overhead electrical distribution lines and equipment by Kingston Hydro Corporation.

To prepare, residents should turn off appliances, fully charge cellphones, keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed, and consider backup power for critical systems. Generators should be used outdoors, away from windows and vents. Those relying on electrically powered medical equipment should have backup power options and alternative plans in place.

Utilities Kingston apologizes for any inconvenience caused and emphasizes that these upgrades are crucial for maintaining reliable electricity service.
