Queen’s University workers and students rally to avoid strike

Strike could happen as soon as Monday

Workers, students, and community supporters will gather outside Richardson Hall at Queen’s University on Thursday, January 30, at noon to urge the university and foodservice contractor Aramark to address critical concerns before a potential strike.

Members of CUPE 229 (foodservice), CUPE 254 (technicians), and CUPE 1302 (library workers), could walk off the job as soon as Monday morning if their demands for better wages, improved staffing, and enhanced services are not met.

Speakers at the rally include CUPE Ontario President Fred Hahn and leaders from CUPE 229 and CUPE 1302. With contracts expired for up to 10 months, workers are calling for action to prevent a crisis that could damage Queen’s reputation and impact student services.

The rally begins at 11:45 a.m., with speakers scheduled for noon.
