UDSI ends tonight

Police happy with student leadership

The University District Safety Initiative (UDSI)  remains in effect until 11:59 tonight, Monday the 9th.

The initiative exists to encourage safer behaviour from students. It formed out of a partnership between the City of Kingston, Kingston Police, and Queen's University.

Kingston Police Chief Scott Fraser says the partnership has yielded results.

The Chief says the UDSI sees Bylaw and the Police Liaison Team educating students about the risks associated with large unsanctioned gatherings and urges them to be respectful.

Chief Fraser says just because the UDSI ends doesn't mean they ease up on their education efforts.

That said Chief Fraser says they want students to have a good time.

He understands that for many it's the first time they're away from home. He does have a piece of advice to share.

When the UDSI is in effect, hosting illegal parties or violating other bylaws can result in action being taken by Queen’s under their student code of conduct, it can also result in an Administrative Monetary Penalty being issued.

You can learn more about the initiative on the City's website. The specific page can be found here
