Youth summit empowers future climate leaders in Kingston

The future looks bright!

The fourth annual Youth Climate Action Summit (YCAS) held on November 12, 2024, brought together 85 students from 19 school and community groups across the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Region. The event, hosted at the Kingston Frontenac Public Library, focused on climate action, adaptation, and mitigation strategies.

Keynote speakers included Dan Hendry, a local public transit advocate, and Cedric Pepelea, an energy efficiency entrepreneur. Workshops covered topics such as energy efficiency, creative communications, and planting pocket forests.

Students also participated in panel discussions with environmental leaders, exploring career opportunities in the sector. As part of the event, participants began developing their own Climate Action Plans (CAPs) to address climate challenges in their schools and communities.

The summit, organized by the Frontenac Arch Biosphere Network (FABN), highlighted youth-driven solutions to the climate crisis and encouraged students to apply for seed funding to bring their CAPs to life.
