Pedestrian hit by VIA in Kingston
Ontario Provincial Police and the Office of the Chief Coroner are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed by a VIA Rail train Saturday afternoon in Kingston’s west end.
The incident involved Train 65, traveling from Montreal to Toronto, around 3 p.m. Emergency services quickly responded, and the tracks were shut down for several hours to allow investigators to examine the scene.
The train carried 214 passengers, but no injuries were reported among passengers or crew. VIA Rail issued an apology to customers for delays that affected multiple routes, including 65, 42, and 47.
Authorities confirmed foul play is not suspected, but they are continuing to determine the circumstances leading to the tragic event.
Rail traffic resumed late Saturday night, but officials say further updates will depend on ongoing findings. Anyone with information is urged to contact the OPP.
