Kingston city council will review four options for the little league baseball diamond fencing at Cricket Field after residents called for its removal.
Following the Canadian Little League Championships in August, local delegations, including the Sydenham District Association, said removing the outfield fence was part of the agreement to build the diamond. Baseball supporters, including the Kingston Minor Baseball Association, argue permanent fencing is expensive but necessary for play.
Council will consider options ranging from adding pedestrian gates to removing the outfield fence and reinstalling temporary fencing each season. Costs range from $50,000 to $220,000, with some options including an annual $20,000 reinstallation fee.
Regardless of the decision, the bright yellow fence topping will be replaced with black material, and modifications will be made to the dugout fencing.
Council is set to vote on the matter at its meeting tonight (Tuesday).
