Kingston Police appoints new Deputy Chief

Matt Funnell brings extensive local experience to the role

The Kingston Police Services Board has announced the appointment of Inspector Matt Funnell as the new Deputy Chief of Police, effective September 10, 2024. 

With over two decades of service in Kingston, Funnell brings a wealth of experience to his new role.

Funnell began his policing career in 1996 with the Carleton Place Police Service before joining Kingston Police in 2001. 

He has served in various roles, including frontline patrol, the Criminal Investigations Division, and as a founding member of the Cold Case Investigations Unit. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2010, Staff Sergeant in 2014, and Inspector in 2021.

The Board and Chief Scott Fraser expressed confidence in Funnell's leadership as he steps into his new role. 

Funnell’s achievements include the Police Exemplary 20 Year Service Medal and multiple awards for his dedication and commitment to the community.
