What's Good In Kingston: Murals, meaning and belonging: Local artists transform downtown traffic control boxes

Bringing colour to Kingston.

Five Kingston-based artists are bringing colour and creativity to the city’s core this summer by transforming traffic control boxes along Princess Street into public art.

Commissioned by the City of Kingston, the project aims to support local talent and beautify public spaces. Each artist was chosen for their experience creating outdoor murals and was selected in consultation with the City’s Art in Public Places Subcommittee.

At the corner of Bagot and Princess, Sasha Jimenez French’s vibrant mural In search of light adds a bold splash of colour and symbolism. She explains what inspired the piece and how it came together.

Nearby at Montreal and Princess, Abby Nowakowski’s painted mural explores themes of place and belonging. She shares her favourite part of her experience during the creation process.

Sasha Jimenez French mentions how she's grateful for Kingston's support.

Nowakowski talks about including the publics opinion for the final art piece.

Make sure to check out all of the artists work around Downtown Kingston.
