Three Queen's University students are preparing to cycle 260 kilometres from Toronto to Kingston in a single day to raise money for cancer research.
The Pedal for a Purpose charity ride takes place Sept. 19 and is organized through the Tri-Colour Classic, a student-run organization that supports the Canadian Cancer Society.
The riders, Greg, Jay and Callum, are hoping to raise $50,000 this year.
Jay, the founder of this experience explains the relationships built with Tri-Colour classic.
The ride is expected to take between 10 and 12 hours, with the cyclists leaving Toronto around 3:30 a.m. A support vehicle will follow them along the route with food, water and supplies.
The three students have been training throughout the summer, with cycling and endurance sports backgrounds helping prepare them for the challenge.
They say their motivation comes from wanting to support people affected by cancer and show that fundraising can take many forms.
Greg says cancer affects many families across the world.
The riders are expected to arrive at Goodes Hall at Queen's University around 6 p.m., where a finish-line celebration will welcome them home.
Callum says the support can come in multiple different ways.
