What's Good in Kingston: The Kelsey Grant

Kingston event offers free pet nail trims while honouring local resident’s legacy

A Kingston fundraiser is inviting pet owners to bring their animals for free nail trims while supporting local shelters in need.

The monthly event, called The Kelsey Grant, takes place Sunday, Sept. 21 from noon to 3 p.m. at Rens Pets. It has been running for a full year and has already raised thousands for area shelters.

The initiative was created in memory of Kelsey Cunningham, a Kingston resident who died in 2020 after a long battle with mental health. Organizer Alexis Flowersmith says Cunningham’s love for animals and passion for kindness inspired the creation of the grant.

The event is free for the community, giving pet owners who may not be able to afford grooming or veterinary services a chance to care for their animals.

Flowersmith hopes the fundraiser will continue to grow and spread Cunningham’s mission of joy and compassion throughout Kingston and beyond.

Flowersmith says everyone is welcome, whether to get a free nail trim, support local shelters, or simply honour Kelsey Cunningham’s legacy. The Kelsey Grant continues to bring the community together, one paw and one act of kindness at a time.
