What's Good in Kingston: Valentine's baskets

Students at JR Henderson Public School sold candygrams to create gift baskets for the pediatric inpatient unit at KHSC.

Patients in the pediatric unit at Kingston Health Sciences Centre will be receiving something for Valentine's Day.

Grade four and five students at JR Henderson Public School in Kingston are sending 18 valentine's baskets to children at the hospital. They will also donate $1,000 to the KHSC pediatric inpatient unit.

The baskets were created through the sale of $1 candygrams. Around 2,500 candygrams were sold during a two-week period.

School principal Kate Brennan tells us why they are doing this initiative.

Brennan says while she came up with the idea of getting students to help raise money for the KHSC pediatric inpatient unit, it's the students that took ownership in the project.

Once the Valentine's baskets are put together, the students will then bring them to the hospital this Friday to give to the patients in the unit.

Brennan tells us what the children at the hospital can expect from each basket.

Brennan hopes the students will learn something meaningful from their generosity.
