Armed felon with 70 convictions busted in Kingston

Caught with scoped handgun.

Kingston Police say they have arrested a repeat offender who tried to ditch a loaded handgun during a patrol stop on May 9.

The Street Crime Unit was on patrol near Patrick and Joseph Streets when they saw a man known to police. During the stop, the suspect allegedly tried to throw away a semi-automatic 9mm handgun equipped with a scope.

After a short struggle, officers arrested the 41-year-old Kingston resident. He now faces multiple charges, including resisting arrest, four counts of breaching probation, five counts of breaching weapons prohibitions, and several firearm-related offences.

Police say the man was already under two probation orders and five weapons bans for crimes involving weapons, assault, and drug trafficking. He has over 70 past convictions.

The accused is being held in custody after a bail hearing.

Police are urging residents to report drug or weapons activity online or contact Detective Sgt. Shawn Birney at 613-549-4660 ext. 6323.
