The rookie goaltender stopped 27 shots for his first-career OHL shutout.
Scoring was sparse but Gavin Betts helped make it a perfect weekend for the Kingston Frontenacs.
The 17-year-old made 27 saves for his first-career OHL shutout in a 1-0 Frontenacs (4-1-0-1) victory over the visiting Erie Otters at Slush Puppie Place on Sunday.
14 of those saves came in the second period with the game still scoreless.
Head coach Troy Mann says Betts came up with the big stop when the team needed it.
Betts says he remained focused late in the game to preserve the win.
On the other end, Otters (2-5-0-0) netminder Charlie Burns stopped 26 of 27 shots.
Mann says there were other opportunities that he felt his team could have capitalized.
The only goal of the game came off the stick of Kieren Dervin 1:33 into the third period.
Mann felt the team hasn't played the way they should be playing throughout the game.
Erie had some power play opportunities late in the third period including a five-on-three.
But Betts says he teammates came through in the end.
The next game for the Frontenacs is Thursday night when they head to Peterborough to play the Petes in the first of a back-to-back home-and-home.
You can catch the game live on Upper Canada Fuel and Burner Frontenacs Hockey on New Country 98.9 starting at 7 p.m.
