Canada Day closures could affect your plans in Kingston

City reminds residents about service disruptions, transit changes, store closures and major Causeway shutdown on July 1.

Residents planning to celebrate Canada Day in Kingston are being urged to check service schedules, store hours and road closures before heading out on July 1.

The City of Kingston says several municipal services will be closed for the holiday, including administrative offices, recreation facilities, library branches and the Kingston Disposal Site.

Garbage and green bin collection will not take place on Canada Day. Instead, collection will move one day later than usual for the remainder of the week.

Kingston Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule, while Kingston Access Bus will provide limited service. During the scheduled lift of the LaSalle Causeway, Route 60 will be rerouted between Fort Henry and King’s Crossing using the Waaban Crossing.

The biggest transportation impact will be the complete closure of the LaSalle Causeway from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., affecting vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.

Residents should also plan ahead for shopping. The LCBO will be closed on Canada Day, while The Beer Store locations in Kingston are expected to be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., although hours may vary by location. Most grocery stores will be closed or operating with reduced holiday hours.

While many city services will be unavailable, Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, Confederation Basin marinas, the PumpHouse Museum and the Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning will remain open throughout the holiday.
