City asks residents to be prepared in event of postal disruption

Canada Post workers are in a position to strike on May 22nd.

The City of Kingston are putting plans in place in case there is a work stoppage at Canada Post.

Negotiations between Canada Post and the union representing 68,000 workers continue as they face a May 22nd strike deadline.

In the event Canada Post workers do end up walking off the job or the company locks them out, the City recommends people do not send time-sensitive documents such as tax bill payments through the mail.

In a news release, the City suggest property owners pay their tax bill using their online portal.

They say information on other payments such as Utilities Kingston, parking fines, and garbage bag tags can be found by going to the City's website

The potential labour disruption at Canada Post stems from a strike by postal workers last November that dragged into the Christmas holiday season.

The work stoppage ended on Dec. 17 when the Canada Labour Relations Board ordered the striking workers back to work.
