Council approved the purchase of the site on Sydenham Rd. at Tuesday's meeting.
A property on 924 Sydenham Road will be the site of a new temporary emergency shelter.
Kingston City Council approved a motion at Tuesday's meeting to purchase the lot located just north of Princess Street for $2.45 Million plus $65,000 for closing costs.
The new shelter will initially have room for 30 beds with plans to expand it and add another 15 beds in the future.
In a news release from the city, they say council is committed to evolving emergency shelter and transitional or supportive housing services to better support people in the community who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
They went on to say that with the clear direction and support, they are taking steps to provide timely assistance to those in need throughout Kingston.
