Cross-country ride raising awareness.
Cheers greeted 22-year-old Simeon King at Ontario Park in Kingston on July 24 as he continued his solo bike ride across Canada in support of people living with type 1 diabetes.
King, who lives with the condition himself, began his 7,500-kilometre journey in Vancouver on June 1. His goal is to reach St. John’s, Newfoundland, by late August, raising $100,000 for I Challenge Diabetes.
So far, he’s raised $80,000 and is sharing his journey online to raise awareness about the daily challenges of life with type 1 diabetes.
King says managing his own health has been the hardest part of the ride, more than rain, heat, or bike issues.
His stop in Kingston is one of 14 community visits planned. Deputy Mayor Vincant Cianni and MP Mark Gerretsen’s office representative Ashleigh Arnold were on hand to welcome him.
