20 percent of the city's hydrants are being inspected for water quality and fire protection.
Kingston Fire and Rescue are going around the city testing fire hydrants.
They will be conducting inspections on 20 percent of the city's hydrants between now and the Fall.
The inspections will occur in neighbourhoods in Zone Two North that encompasses Queen St to the south, Division St to the west, Montreal St to the east, and the 401 to the north, and Zone Seven South which is south of Johnson St to Lake Ontario, and Portsmouth Ave east to Johnson.
In a news release from the City of Kingston, the inspections are done to maintain and protect the integrity of the drinking water system and ensure reliable fire protection. They will check mechanical components, assess overall condition, and perform flushing and flow rating.
Residents in the affected neighbourhoods may experience temporary reduced water pressure and discoloured water.
