Frontenacs come up short in shootout loss to Greyhounds

Tyler Hopkins with 3 points including a pair of goals for Kingston.

The Frontenacs once again had to come from behind but couldn't pull out a win against the Greyhounds.

Sault Ste. Marie survived a two-man disadvantage late in the third period and two more penalties in overtime to win it 5-4 in a shootout.

Kingston finished the game 1-for-5 on the power play but head coach Troy Mann isn't too worried about that area of the game.

Forward Tyler Hopkins says capitalizing with the man advantage could have been the difference.

The Frontenacs were down 2-0 before Jake Battaglia got one back late in the first period.

They trailed 3-1 in the second period when Landon Wright and Hopkins answered to tie it up.

Down 4-3 in the third, Hopkins would tie it up again on a delayed penalty.

Playing catch up three straight times to start the season is something Mann would like see change. But he was impressed the way his players responded.

Hopkins had two goals and an assist in his second game back from the Maple Leafs training camp. He says he is still making the adjustment back to the junior level.

Jordan Charron scored twice while Noah Tegelaar made 22 saves and stop all 5 shots in the shootout for the Greyhounds (2-1-0-0).

Gavin Betts, in his third straight start for the Frontenacs (1-1-0-1), had 21 saves and stopped the first 4 shots in the shootout before Quinn McKenzie put one by him to end it.

Next game for the Frontenacs is Sunday at 2 pm when they travel to North Bay to face the Battalion. Jim Gilchrist has the call on New Country 98.9 with Upper Canada Fuel & Burner Frontenacs Hockey.
