Close to five generations have helped operate the farm.
Growing Up on the Farm, a look into local agriculture, presented by KUBOTA. We are profiling Ripplebrook Farm.
Ripplebrook Farm in Lennox and Addington County has been family-run since 1951. What started with a few cows is now a busy dairy farm producing 9,000 litres of milk every day. Kevin MacLean, the third generation to run the farm, returned after studying at the University of Guelph and took over in 1998.
Ripplebrook milks 135 cows three times a day, every day of the year. Kevin says better nutrition, genetics, and crop management have helped increase production over the past 70 years.
The farm is also home to seven quarter horses, which Kevin’s daughter Adrianna rides and shows across North America. His stepson Taylor helps run the farm too, and the fifth generation — Kevin’s grandkids — are already showing interest.
Kevin says the key to farming is hard work and passing on knowledge.
