KHSC names new clinical chair for breast cancer program

Dr. Doris Jabs brings more than two decades of experience into her new role.

It is seen as another step forward in women's breast health in Kingston.

Kingston Health Sciences Centre announced on Thursday at Hotel Dieu Hospital the appointment of Dr. Doris Jabs as the Rose of Hope Clinical Chair in Breast Health.

Jabs is a radiologist and will be tasked to lead the department in breast cancer screening, imaging and care.

She says her role as clinical chair will add a human element in the patient's recovery process.

Jabs says one of her objectives as clinical chair will be to make people more aware about the importance of early detection and screening.

The position of clinic chair was made possible from a donation from the Rose of Hope through their annual golf tournament.

Chair Sherri McCullough says the committee have been able to raise funds for things like MRI and mammography machines, and other equipment.

But she says the addition of a clinical chair will help keep things moving along.

McCullough says Dr. Jabs brings over 20 years of experience into her new role.

Jabs is encouraging women to get screened for breast cancer.

She says early detection is the best defense against this deadly disease.
