Kingston-area McDonald's preparing for McHappy Day

10 percent of food and beverage purchases sold on Wednesday will go to Ronald McDonald House and YMCA Kid's Camps.

McDonald's locations in the Kingston area will be pulling up their socks for McHappy Day.

The special one-day event goes this Wednesday at all locations across Canada.

10 percent of all food and beverage purchases will go to local charities and Ronald McDonald House.

Director of Operations at McDonald's in Kingston and Gananoque Mary Howlett says it is the one day that high-profile people get to go behind the counter.

Half of the money collected will go to YMCA Kid's Camps programs while the other half will go to the Ronald McDonald House in Ottawa.

Howlett says Ronald McDonald House has played an important role for families whenever their child has to make hospital visits in Ottawa.

In addition to the food, all McDonald's locations in Canada will be selling merchandise with proceeds also going to the two charities.

This year marks the 32nd year of McHappy Day. Kingston and Gananoque stores raised over $70,000 last year, $11.3 million across Canada.

Our personalities from 98.3 FLY FM, 102.7 WOW FM, and New Country 98.9 will be at various McDonald's locations across Kingston.

Reid will be at the Division/Benson store, Sideshow at Gardiners/Bath, and Big G and Matty at Princess/Midland.
