Kingston’s downtown streets are getting a colourful makeover this July
Thanks to a new public art project transforming traffic control boxes into vibrant urban canvases.
The City of Kingston has commissioned five local artists to create murals and digital illustrations along Princess Street. The project supports emerging talent and helps deter graffiti by turning infrastructure into creative landmarks.
“This project has engaged an incredible group of local artists to enliven our downtown public spaces,” said Megan Sirett, Manager of Arts and Culture Services.
Installations include Sasha Jimenez French’s painted piece In search of light at Bagot and Princess, and Eron One’s mural It’s always sunny in Kingston at Crawford Wharf. Other works by Abby Nowakowski, Ben Nelson, and Grace Dixon can be seen at key intersections downtown.
The City’s Art in Public Places Subcommittee selected the artists for their mural experience and vision for outdoor public art.
