Ottawa eyes sale to developers
City council is taking further steps to protect a highly valuable tourist attraction.
Council unanimously passed a notion of intention to designate the Kingston Penitentiary as a property of cultural heritage.
It's a response to the federal government listing the infamous prison for sale for housing developers. Council's previously passed motions calling on the government to take Kingston Pen off its list.
The prison attracted nearly 90,000 visitors last year and has generated $57 million in revenue since tours began eight years ago.
