There are a number of activities happening during the week between Oct. 5 to 11.
Kingston Fire & Rescue is urging residents to “Charge into Fire Safety” during National Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 5 to 11, with a special focus on lithium-ion batteries.
The 2025 theme highlights how to buy, charge and recycle rechargeable batteries safely. Found in phones, laptops, toys, tools, e-bikes and mobility devices, lithium-ion batteries are common and convenient but can pose fire risks if misused.
“As our homes become more connected with battery-powered devices, our vigilance must increase,” said Ted Posadowski, Chief Fire Prevention Officer. He urged residents to always use certified chargers, avoid charging overnight or on soft surfaces, and recycle damaged batteries properly.
To mark the week, KFR is hosting events including an open house and pancake breakfast Oct. 4 at Station 3, a seniors’ safety session Oct. 8, and a Cataraqui Mall display Oct. 10.
