After more than 20 years on Hickson Avenue, Kingston’s Partners in Mission Food Bank is relocating to a new, larger location at 4 Harvey Street.
The move, just 400 metres west, will see the food bank closed on April 25 and 28, reopening to clients on April 29.
The new 17,500-square-foot building is twice the size of the old facility.
Instead of waiting outside for hampers, clients will now shop for the items they need inside. The food bank is also eliminating its point system, offering food in bins based on household size.
The new space was purchased for $3.2 million and renovated for $1.5 million.
Executive director Dan Irwin says the change will improve dignity and access for the growing number of people needing support.
