Penalty for parking in an accessible spot will be $400 as of Labour Day.
The City of Kingston is changing parking fines starting Sept. 1, 2025, to support accessibility and keep its parking system self-funded.
The fine for unauthorized use of an accessible space will rise from $300 to $400. At the same time, the hourly parking rate for accessible spaces was reduced earlier this year from $1.50 to $1.
Other fines are also being updated. Parking at an expired meter will cost $25 if paid early or $30 at the regular rate. Failure to display a pay-and-display receipt, or overstaying a meter zone, will each cost $30 early or $35 at the regular rate.
“By lowering costs for those who need accessible parking and increasing fines for violations, we’re making our parking system fairer, more sustainable and easier to navigate,” said Kyle Compeau, Director of Licensing & Enforcement Services.
