Kingston puts summer watering rules in place — here’s when you can turn on your tap

Residents and businesses can only water outdoors on specific days, based on their street address.

Summer watering restrictions are now in effect in Kingston until September 15.

Residents and businesses can only water outdoors on specific days, based on their street address.

Odd-numbered homes water on odd-numbered days, and even-numbered homes water on even days.

Sprinklers are only allowed between 5 and 10 a.m. on your assigned day. Hand watering and rain barrel use are allowed any time on that day.

Utilities Kingston says these rules help protect water reserves, fire safety, and the environment.

“As warmer weather sets in, we see higher demand on our water systems,” said Heather Roberts, Director of Water & Wastewater Services.

Reducing outdoor water use also helps limit pollution entering Lake Ontario, Kingston’s main source of drinking water.

The City’s Water Bylaw governs the rules. Visit UtilitiesKingston.com to apply for exemptions and learn more about saving water.
