Council votes, says no changes needed
The Cricket Field baseball fence is staying put after Kingston council voted 9-4 to leave it as is.
It goes against previous assurances provided to the Sydenham District Association the fence would be removed following last year's national little league championship tournament.
Council was presented with four options with varying costs and solutions while considering the fate of the fence, but ultimately decided to leave it as a permanent fixture.
It was a hotly contested topic that's now put to rest. Mayor Brian Paterson had a message for the public afterwards.
While Councillor Wendy Stephen apologized to those who felt misdirected, she says getting it right outweighs everything else.
Members of the SDA say the fence divides and limits use of the park for others.
Representatives from the Kingston Baseball Association said keeping the fence in place was necessary for player and spectator safety.
Last year's tournament generated over $1.2 million in revenue for the city.
