Last chance to drop off hazardous waste as Kingston facility announces seasonal shutdown

The final drop-off days are Thursday, Nov. 27, and Saturday, Nov. 29.

The City of Kingston is reminding residents that the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) facility at 196 Lappan’s Lane will close for the 2025 season at the end of November.

The final drop-off days are Thursday, Nov. 27, and Saturday, Nov. 29. The site operates seasonally from April to November, open Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to gather hazardous items such as batteries, pesticides, paint, solvents, pool chemicals, propane cylinders, motor oil, antifreeze, oven cleaners and compact fluorescent light bulbs before visiting. Proof of residency is required upon drop-off.

The City urges residents not to throw hazardous materials in the garbage or pour them down the drain. Items should be kept in their original containers and never mixed.

Some items, like medications, batteries and fluorescent bulbs, can be dropped off year-round at participating pharmacies or recycling locations listed at rpra.ca.

The facility will reopen in spring 2026.
