The Ontario government is putting nearly $60 million into provincial parks, with Bon Echo and Sandbanks among the biggest winners. The investment marks the largest expansion of camping opportunities in 50 years.
Bon Echo Provincial Park will see both new and upgraded campsites. The plan includes adding brand-new sites as well as electrifying existing ones, giving more families and outdoor enthusiasts access to modern, reliable camping options.
Sandbanks Provincial Park, one of Ontario’s busiest with about 750,000 visitors each year, will see up to 73 campsites upgraded with electrical service by summer 2026. Officials say the upgrades will make camping more comfortable and accessible for a wide range of visitors.
In total, the province will create 300 new campsites and upgrade 800 existing sites over the next three years. The government says the project will attract more domestic and international visitors while boosting local businesses and jobs.
