Make sure family vaccinations are up to date
KFL&A Public Health is urging residents to check their measles immunization records after a confirmed case in Kingston.
Measles is a highly contagious virus that spreads through the air and close contact. Symptoms include fever, cough, red eyes, runny nose, fatigue, and a red rash.
“Most people in our region are immune,” said Dr. Piotr Oglaza, medical officer of health. “But staying up to date on your vaccines is the best way to protect everyone.”
The measles vaccine is safe and effective. Two doses offer strong protection. People born before 1970 are likely already immune. Those born in 1970 or later should confirm they have received two MMR doses.
Travelers are especially urged to review their immunization status and get vaccinated at least two weeks before departure.
