St. Lawrence College pledges to keep classes running
More than 10,000 full-time support workers at Ontario’s 24 public colleges, including St. Lawrence College in Brockville and Kingston, have walked off the job in a strike that began today.
The Ontario Public Service Employees’ Union (OPSEU), which represents the workers, said the job action is focused on ensuring job security. The union’s bargaining team claimed the College Employer Council walked away from talks Wednesday afternoon without responding to proposals.
At St. Lawrence College, officials confirmed that faculty and part-time staff are not involved in the strike. All campuses remain open and classes are continuing as scheduled.
College administrators warned students and staff that some services may be modified or delayed during the labour disruption. They also noted that delays could occur when entering or leaving campus due to picket lines.
Students are urged to keep monitoring their college email and the SLC website for updates throughout the strike.
