Ontario invests $495,717 to boost public transit in municipalities west of Kingston

The funding will expand service hours, increase routes, purchase new vehicles, and improve accessibility.

Ontario is investing $495,717 to support public transit in municipalities west of Kingston.

Communities included are: Bancroft, Loyalist, Marmora and Lake, and Deseronto.

The funding, part of the 2024-25 Gas Tax program, will help expand service hours, increase routes, purchase new vehicles, and improve accessibility to encourage higher transit ridership.

The investment is part of a broader $380 million commitment to 106 municipalities across Ontario. Hastings-Lennox & Addington MPP Ric Bresee welcomed the funding, calling it "great news" for local residents.

The funding breakdown includes $83,303 for Bancroft, $198,449 for Loyalist Township, $20,173 for Marmora and Lake, and $193,792 for Deseronto.

Last year, a similar investment supported Deseronto Transit’s expansion to the Belleville-Napanee corridor, though Greater Napanee has since raised concerns.

The Ontario government has maintained Gas Tax allocations at 2023-24 levels to ensure continued support for local transit improvements.
