Residents planning outdoor projects are being reminded to request underground utility locates before digging, following a name change for Ontario One Call.
The organization is now known as Ontario Dig Authority. The name change took effect as of last Tuesday.
The service coordinates requests with utility companies to ensure underground infrastructure is marked before excavation begins.
Whether planting a tree, building a fence or deck, landscaping or undertaking a larger project, residents must request a locate before digging. The service is free, and requests should be submitted at least five business days before a single-address project, or 10 business days before a multi-address or large project.
Locates can be requested online at ontariodigauthority.ca or by calling 1-800-400-2255. The markings help protect workers and prevent damage to underground utilities.
