Ontario Provincial Police say 34 motorists have been charged with impaired driving across the East Region during the first week of the Festive RIDE campaign.
Officers have run more than 270 roadside checks since Nov. 20, stopping hundreds of drivers to look for signs of alcohol or drug impairment.
Each arrested driver received a 90-day license suspension, a seven-day vehicle impound and a date in court.
Police also issued seven three-day suspensions to drivers who tested in the warning range on a roadside screening device.
Chief Superintendent Lisa Wilhelm said impaired driving puts lives at risk, adding that people who plan to drink or use drugs should arrange safe transportation.
RIDE checkpoints can appear at any time, day or night, and police urge the public to call 911 if they see a driver they believe is impaired.
