Have a story to share? Submit yours before the end of May
The City of Kingston's poet laureate is developing a poem to honour the LaSalle Causeway and she is seeking input from the community.
Sadiqa de Meijer is inviting residents to send in one or two lines about the causeway.
In particular, she would like to hear what the bridge that connects the downtown with the eastern portion of the city has meant to them.
It can be a favourite memory, a particular experience or a reflection on its impact on the city.
The causeway was first built in 1829 as a penny bridge before it was replaced by the Bascule lift bridge in 1917.
That bridge remained in place until 2024 when it was damaged and replaced with a modular bridge.
In a news release, the poem will be shared with residents on the City's website and will also be available in print at City Hall and at various arts spaces throughout the city.
People can make their submissions to the City's website by May 30th.
