Asphalt rejuvenation work set to cause brief delays on streets across the city.
Drivers in Kingston may notice darkened road surfaces and temporary traffic delays as the city began its annual asphalt rejuvenation program.
Work started on Monday and will be completed by contractor Superior Road Products on selected streets throughout the municipality.
The process involves applying a maltene oil-based emulsion designed to restore pavement performance and extend the lifespan of asphalt roads. City officials say each application takes about 45 minutes and roads will remain open to traffic during treatment.
Freshly treated pavement may appear stained and could be mistaken for an oil spill, the city said. Limestone sand will be spread to absorb any remaining oil before being swept away the following day.
Motorists are being advised to expect short delays and avoid affected areas when possible. Residents are also asked not to park on roads scheduled for treatment, as parked vehicles can slow the work.
Each location is expected to be affected for less than one day. Affected streets are listed under Road Rehabilitation (Reclamite Application) on the city’s Capital Projects webpage.
