The college say 161 graduates of their practical nursing program benefitted from the grant program.
St. Lawrence College says they plan to continue their participation in the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant program.
The partnership will run until the end of the 2026-2027 school year.
The program, which was first introduced in 2023, supports students who are taking up nursing, paramedcine, and other priority health care programs in post-secondary institutions by paying for tuition, books, and other related costs.
The aim is that graduates will take up health care positions in underserved communities across Ontario.
In a news release, St. Lawrence admitted close to 1,200 students in Bachelor of Science Nursing and Practical Nursing program. They say 161 graduates from the first co-hort of the practical nursing program have benefitted from the grant program.
SLC president and CEO Glenn Vollebregt says the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant helps both our students and our communities by removing financial barriers to education. He says students can more readily pursue rewarding careers in healthcare while also addressing the urgent need for skilled professionals in Eastern Ontario.
